Long Term Self Care Cards
How often do we hear self care described as a “treat yo self” immediate gratification opportunity for something that makes us feel better in the moment, but doesn’t really have lasting effects?
What I think is most important to instill for us as caring professionals and for our clients are long term health habits that will best equip you to sustain through life’s demands. Although these aren’t necessarily the most enjoyable things in the moment (choosing water instead of a tasty sugary drink every day, getting dressed when you’re depressed and want to stay in bed, putting in the effort to go through the collected stack of mail) - we want to plan ahead and consider the lasting effects of today’s actions.
Life circumstances and mental health can vary over time, so these habits can look different in seasons of our lives. We want to share 18 self care techniques that can be implemented no matter the season, to help your clients’ bodies and minds be taken care of for the long term. The effects can look like having the energy to go to work, having the mental energy to take care of kids or engage with peers, or perseverance through bought of mental health decline. We feel the best when we take care of ourselves.
Download these 18 long term self care cards today to post as reminders around a client’s house (or your own!), post in an office, or keep on a binder ring for easy access in the community. A brief facilitation guide is also included, with some song suggestions for lyric discussion and implementation of this resource.
